Who can benefit

Homeowners who want to age in place.

Families worried about the safety and comfort of older relatives.

Individuals who'd like a new home or renovation to include universal design and aging-in-place amenities.

Building professionals with clients who have health issues.

Accommodating Homes, LLC, was founded by Marcie Lain LaBelle.  She is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), has an MBA from the University of Hartford and is a Director of Visiting Nurse & Health Services of Connecticut as well as a Corporator of the Eastern Connecticut Health Network. She is also the proud daughter and daughter-in-law of two beautiful women who are currently in their 90s.

Several years ago, as Marcie experienced the challenges presented by her own mother's and her in-laws' declining health, she became convinced of several things:

"I realized that it was critical for older individuals with even minor physical limitations to have their environments evaluated for safety and accessibility before they experienced a medical emergency. My research also showed that there was an amazing number of new product innovations and technological advances designed to help people age right where they are - which is what most of us want to do.

Finally, I recognized that homeowners and families needed access to a professional who both understood the impact that aging and chronic health conditions can have on one's daily activities and who could easily identify the modifications, products and tools - simple or complex - that improved the situation. That professional, I concluded, was an occupational therapist."

Accommodating Homes' services, provided through its network of select occupational therapists, were developed to meet just this need.

Our occupational therapists are licensed in Connecticut, have extensive experience in home evaluations and environmental adaptations, and are well-versed on the impact and progression of health problems and chronic conditions that often accompany aging.
