If you're like many Americans, you want to spend your later years right where you are. The problem is, the home that might have served you well when you were raising a family or building your career can, over time, become an increasingly difficult place to live. Tricky stairs, poor lighting, hard-to-reach storage ... annoyances like these might now be making your daily life harder than it has to be, not to mention less safe. At some point, they might even become barriers to your independence.
If you're looking to make the next twenty years of living in your home as secure and as comfortable as the last, Accommodating Homes can point you in the right direction.
An Expert AssessmentFirst, we'll get to know you and how you function within your current living space. This will involve two on-site visits by one of our licensed occupational therapists experienced with environmental adaptations. It will also take into consideration responses to questionnaires we've asked you and, with your permission, your personal physician to complete.
A Detailed Action PlanAfter we've analyzed all of the information we've gathered, we'll develop a comprehensive action plan tailored to your situation. It will detail our recommendations and prioritize them based on specific objectives. These will be presented to you during a third visit, during which time we'll answer any questions or concerns you have. We'll also leave behind a notebook containing our report which can be a useful resource for any contractors or building professionals with whom you may later work.
Implementation SupportFinally, if you'd like to make any of the changes we recommend, we can provide a registry of expert, screened service and product providers, along with estimates for implementation. If you choose to handle some or all of our recommendations on your own, an Accommodating Homes occupational therapist is available to consult with you and your contractors or vendors.
Comfort, Safety ... and So Much MoreWhile our recommendations focus on making everyday activities easier and safer, we also look at facilitating the pursuits that contribute to your quality of life. These can include everything from gardening to gourmet cooking to staying physically fit. Accommodating Homes therapists make a special effort to learn about each client's interests and passions and place a priority on creatively addressing them.
Although clients want comfort and accessibility, we also know they don't want to detract from their homes' attractiveness and style. That's why the products and experts we recommend place as much emphasis on aesthetics as they do on functionality.
